Reading

Please read with your child regularly and note in their records when they have read with you. Your child will be tested to enable them to move up a book band. Eventually, they can become a free reader! Children have the opportunity to read in class on occasion so they need to bring their reading diaries and reading books to school daily, and take them home every day. We expected them to read at least three times a week at home.

Spellings

Your child will have spellings to learn each week set on a Thursday. They will take home a Look, Cover, Write, Check sheet to support them in learning their spellings. The class will be tested on Thursday afternoons. The spellings for the year are on this page, and half termly spellings are sent home on dojo at the start of each half term. We learn and practise spellings daily in school but children are expected to practise these at home too.

Times Tables

Please support your child in learning their times tables. It could be asking them their 6 times table whilst in the car! By the end of year 4, pupils should have memorised their multiplication tables up to and including the 12 multiplication table!  Your child has a log in to both TTRS and Numbots (the same log in for both) and there are lots of activities to help learn and consolidate times table knowledge on there. As well as this, there are lots of different games on https://www.timestables.co.uk your child may enjoy.

What is the Multiplication Times Table check (MTC)?

The MTC is a key stage 2 assessment to be taken by pupils at the end of year 4 (in June). The purpose of the MTC is to make sure the times tables knowledge is at the expected level. The MTC is an online test where pupils are asked 25 questions on times tables 2 to 12. For every question you have 6 seconds to answer and in between the questions there is a 3 second rest. Questions about the 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times table come up more often. Your child can practise this on https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/ or on soundcheck on TTRS.
