How to support your child at home

Home Learning

Please read with your child regularly and note in their reading records when they have read with you. We expect children to read at home at least three times a week. These books will increase in complexity as your child develops their reading skills.

The children each have their own home learning book, which stays in their book bag and comes to school each day. This is for anything they want to practice at home, as often as they like. This could include writing their name, forming their letters, forming their numbers, practising tricky words or even drawing a picture. Sometimes we will set specific things for them to complete in their home learning book. F2 children have Treasure Word Sheets where they practice reading and writing words to earn a lucky dip in our treasure chest!

Phonics

As a school, we follow Jolly Phonics as our phonics scheme. Please listen to how we say our sounds. Saying the pure sound is important to help children blend sounds correctly. This will help you understand how best to support your child at home, ensuring consistency for children in school and at home.
