Reading

Please read with your child regularly and note in their records when they have read with you. Your child will be tested to enable them to move up a book band. Eventually, they can become a free reader! Children can take two books home - one at their reading level and one which they have chosen for pleasure. We expected them to read at least three times at home. Please send me a picture of your child reading in an unusual place for our class display. You could send it on Class Dojo or give me a hard copy. For example, they could be reading whilst waiting for the dentist!

Spellings

Your child will have spellings to learn each week set on a Thursday. They will take home a Look, Cover, Write, Check sheet to support them in learning their spellings. The class will be tested on Fridays. At the bottom of this page, you can see an overview on what the spellings will be each week.

Times Tables

Please support your child in learning their times tables. It could be asking them their 6 times table whilst in the car! By the end of year 4, pupils should have memorised their multiplication tables up to and including the 12 multiplication table! There are lots of different games on https://www.timestables.co.uk

What is the Multiplication Times Table check (MTC)?

The MTC is a key stage 2 assessment to be taken by pupils at the end of year 4 (in June). The purpose of the MTC is to make sure the times tables knowledge is at the expected level. The MTC is an online test where pupils are asked 25 questions on times tables 2 to 12. For every question you have 6 seconds to answer and in between the questions there is a 3 second rest. Questions about the 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times table come up more often. Your child can practise this on https://www.timestables.co.uk/multiplication-tables-check/
